EMPOWERING NIGERIAN YOUTHS FOR SUSTAINABLE NATION BUILDING
THE CREATIVE DIGITA FOUNDATION STORY.
Since the Introduction of computer and technology in the 20th century, the world has become a global village and virtual community. Technology has made life easier with the production of machines, systems, and gadgets to make abour more efficient and precise.
In view of this, The Assistant Secretary General and Director of Regional Bureau for Africa of the United Nations Deveopment Programme (UNDP), "Mrs Ahunna Eziakonwa" urged African countries toleverage opportunities offered by Digital Technologies such as Blockchain and machine learning while deploying them in various sectors for the achievement of the 17 "Sustainable Development Goals", (SDG'S), a call made during the 7th Tokyo International Conference on Africa Development (TICAD 7) in Yokohama, Japan.
Following this revelation, Idris Adegbite, a Technocrat and IT professiona based in Lagos, founded Creative Digita Technologies (CDT), an EdTech startup with the mission to empower youths and students, particularly those in underserved communities, with modern tech and digital skills that will grant them access to global opportunities.
Hoisting the banners of Tech as the leading provider of tech and digita skills training as well as School Management Systems for schools in Lagos, Nigeria. CDT is committed to providing affordable, accessible,and engaging education, as well as technological soutions for schools.
In 2023, Creative Digita Technologies aunched its foundation, Creative Digita Foundation (CDF), with the goal of giving everyone access to tech and digital skils education. The Foundation's journey began when young, brilliant, and innovative minds from a college preparatory academy in the Agric suburb of Ikorodu, Lagos, were selected and tested on foundational knowledge of computers. Thirty students were selected as the beneficiary of the scholarship which was in collaboration with the African Deveopment Bank Coding For Employment (AfDBC4E) program. These students were placed in one of two available tracks which were Basic ICT and Front-End Web Development.
The 3 months training officialy kicked off on May 2nd, 2023, with a briefing by the Founder/CEO, Mr. Idris Olalekan Adegbite, on Technoogy as the Future of Africa. Mr. Akindayo Akindolani who is the Program Manager of AfDB C4E, joined the event virtually from Derby, United Kingdom and he delivered a short welcome speech focused on harnessing the opportunities within the digital economy. Practical sessions commenced immediately after the briefing.
Since its inception, CDT & CDF have grown immensely, expanding from their first IT Training to events such as the excursion to SAIL (Senator Abiru Innovative Lab) Ikorodu, to DevFest Lagos 2023, their first summer coding boot campand Operation T3 Tech up a Child, held in partnership with SAIL & evolufy Africa, to their 6 months Software Development Camp 2.0; just to mention a few.
